1897: Birth

Born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha (then part of Bengal Presidency) to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi.

1919: ICS Examination

Passed the Indian Civil Service exams with flying colors in England but resigned to join India's freedom struggle.

1921: Return to India

Returned to India and joined the Indian National Congress under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership.

1930: Mayor of Calcutta

1938: Congress President

Elected as the President of the Indian National Congress at its Haripura session.

1939: Forward Bloc

Founded the Forward Bloc after differences with Gandhi and the Congress leadership over the approach to independence.

1941: The Great Escape

Made a dramatic escape from house arrest in Calcutta and traveled to Germany via Afghanistan and the Soviet Union.

1943: Azad Hind Fauj

Reorganized the Indian National Army (INA) or Azad Hind Fauj in Singapore and gave the famous slogan “Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom.”

1944: Battle of Imphal

Led the INA in its campaign against the British forces on Indian soil, with the battle cry of “Chalo Dilli” (March to Delhi).

1945: Mysterious Disappearance

Reportedly died in a plane crash in Taiwan on August 18, 1945, though the circumstances of his death remain a mystery.
